Richard Branson posted an interesting piece on his LinkedIn page several months ago. He put forth his philosophy on hiring which basically revolves around character, personality and integrity. He is not so concerned with what someone did five years ago or even what he or she has been doing recently. He believes that there are few jobs in his organization that can’t be learned by an intelligent, motivated person in 90 days.
Far be it for me to ignore my stock and trade which is analyzing how someone’s experience and skill set might make them appropriate for a position in one of my client companies. But in an age where technology changes how we work on a daily basis, I think an emphasis on one’s ability to absorb a very steep learning curve might be a lot more critical than skills mastered on previous jobs.
Oh yeah, Trust might be important, too.
